Well, this week was a solid week for sure in San Fernando. Today we are back up in Valsayn at the Williams apartment. We had our Zone Activity this morning and watched "The RM", and then Sister Williams made us some NICE enchiladas.
We had some great experiences this week. We were knocking on doors in the evening and saw this man walking down the street. We walked up to him and started talking to him. He had just gotten off work, and told us that he isn't normally here at this time of day. Normally he would be drinking, but literally that day he decided that his life wasn't going in the right direction and he decided to give up drinking and smoking, cold turkey. We also shouldn't have been there either, because we had just had a lesson fall through. Divine design.
Reinaldo is progressing very well. We finished teaching him all the lessons this week, and he is ready for his interview this week and his baptism this next Saturday. He is super cool. We are excited!
Saturday night we were coming back to the apartment for the night. We parked the car and there was somebody just outside our door lifting weights. We ended up talking to him and he told us about how he just got back from working at sea for 3 or 4 weeks. We asked us about the old missionaries who were here a while ago. He knows that there are things he needs to change in his life. He noticed how all the members of the church he meets are always happy and always "Look peaceful". That is what drew him to the church, the members and their examples of love and cheerfulness. We told him about the Book of Mormon and how it can help us find peace in Jesus Christ. He is really excited to read it. It just goes to show you, it doesn't matter if you are a full time missionary, you can be a missionary even in simple ways like having a good attitude and being positive and uplifting to others. It can change peoples lives.
Well, I know that this is Jesus Christs church, and that this is His work! I know that if we will be faithful to our covenants with God made at baptism and the temple, we can find TRUE peace and light. That is what people see in the members of the church that draws them closer.
Have a good week
Elder Porritt
